하나님의 임재연습(The Practice of the Presence of God) -묵상(28) 01/14/2019 (월. Mon.)

• (요일. 1John 4:15-16)
“누구든지 예수를 하나님의 아들이라 시인하면 하나님이 그의 안에 거하시고 그도 하나님 안에 거하느니라. 하나님이 우리를 사랑하시는 사랑을 우리가 알고 믿었노니 하나님은 사랑이시라 사랑 안에 거하는 자는 하나님 안에 거하고 하나님도 그의 안에 거하시느니라“
If anyone acknowledges that Jesus is the Son of God, God lives in him and he in God. And so we know and rely on the love God has for us. God is love. Whoever lives in love lives in God, and God in him.

로렌스 형제는 마음속에 하나님의 깊은 임재를 가꾸어 감으로써 그 연습을 시작했다. 그는 하나님의 임재란 지식이나 말보다는 마음과 사랑으로 지속되어야만 한다고 말했다. 또한 그는 “하나님의 방법에서는 생각은 별로 중요한게 아니고 사랑이 전부다" 라고도 말했다. 계속해서 그의 말을 들어 보자.
“꼭 큰일만 해야 할 필요는 없다. 나는 후라이팬의 작은 계란 하나라도 하나님을 사랑하는 마음으로 뒤집는다. 그 일도 다 끝나 더 할 일이 없으면 나는 바닥에 엎드려 하나님을 경배한다. 내가 그렇게 할 수 있는 것도 그분이 주시는 은혜 때문이다. 그리고 나서 일어날 때면 나는 어느 왕보다도 더 만족감을 느낀다. 설사 내가 아무것도 할 수 없다 하여도 나는 하나님을 사랑하는 마음으로 방바닥에서 티끌 하나를 주워 올리는 것만으로 족하다.”

“사람들은 어떻게 하는 것이 하나님을 사랑하는 것인지 그 방법들을 알고자 한다. 그들은 내가 알지 못하는 참으로 수많은 방법들에 의하여 거기에 도달하려고 애쓴다. 숱한 방법들을 동원하여 하나님의 임재 안에 거하려 해보지만 오히려 마음에 고통만 가중된다. 범사를 하나님을 사랑하는 마음으로 행하고, 자신이 현재 처한 위치에서 모든 수고를 다함으로써 하나님께 자신의 사랑을 모두어 드리며, 늘 자신의 심령이 하나님과 사귐을 지속하게 함으로써 이미 주어진 하나님의 임재를 계속지켜 가는 것, 그것보다 더 쉽고 직접적인 방법이 있을까?

Brother Lawrence began this practice by cultivating a deep presence of God in his heart. He said that God's presence had to be maintained by the heart and by love rather than by understanding and speech.
"In the way of God," he said, "thoughts count for little, love does everything. And it is not necessary to have great things to do. I turn my little omelet in the pan for the love of God; when it is finished, if I have nothing to do, I prostrate myself on the ground and adore my God, who gave me the grace to make it, after which I arise, more content than a king. When I cannot do anything else, it is enough for me to have lifted a straw from the earth for the love of God.
"People seek for methods of learning to love God. They hope to arrive at it by I know not how many different practices; they take much trouble to remain in the presence of God in a quantity of ways. It is not much shorter and more direct to do everything for the love of God, to make use of all the labors of one's state in life to show Him that love, and to maintain His presence within us by this communion of our hearts with His?
