“후회가 없는 복음이신 예수님을 믿는 삶”

■ [사도행전(Acts) 26:24-32]
(행 26:24) ○바울이 이같이 변명하매 베스도가 크게 소리 내어 이르되 바울아 네가 미쳤도다 네 많은 학문이 너를 미치게 한다 하니
(행 26:25) 바울이 이르되 베스도 각하여 내가 미친 것이 아니요 참되고 온전한 말을 하나이다
(행 26:26) 왕께서는 이 일을 아시기로 내가 왕께 담대히 말하노니 이 일에 하나라도 아시지 못함이 없는 줄 믿나이다 이 일은 한쪽 구석에서 행한 것이 아니니이다
(행 26:27) 아그립바 왕이여 선지자를 믿으시나이까 믿으시는 줄 아나이다
(행 26:28) 아그립바가 바울에게 이르되 네가 적은 말로 나를 권하여 그리스도인이 되게 하려 하는도다
(행 26:29) 바울이 이르되 말이 적으나 많으나 당신뿐만 아니라 오늘 내 말을 듣는 모든 사람도 다 이렇게 결박된 것 외에는 나와 같이 되기를 하나님께 원하나이다 하니라
(행 26:30) ○왕과 총독과 버니게와 그 함께 앉은 사람들이 다 일어나서
(행 26:31) 물러가 서로 말하되 이 사람은 사형이나 결박을 당할 만한 행위가 없다 하더라
(행 26:32) 이에 아그립바가 베스도에게 이르되 이 사람이 만일 가이사에게 상소하지 아니하였더라면 석방될 수 있을 뻔하였다 하니라

■ 나와 같이 되기를 (26:24~29)
복음은 이성과 논리, 합리성의 잣대로 판단할 수 없습니다. 바울이 주님을 만난 신비한 체험과 죽은 자의 부활을 말하자, 베스도 총독은 바울이 미쳤다고 이야기합니다. 그러나 바울이 전하는 복음이야말로 진정으로 ‘참되고 온전한 말’입니다. 세상 사람들은 귀한 것을 갖게 되면 혼자 간직하려고 숨깁니다. 하지만 그리스도인은 그렇지 않습니다. 무엇과도 비교할 수 없이 귀한 보배이신 예수 그리스도를 알게 되면, 그로 인해 얻는 기쁨과 축복을 다른 사람들과 공유하고 싶어집니다. 그래서 주님을 믿으라고 기회만 되면 권합니다. 바울은 복음을 듣는 모든 사람이 자신과 같이 되기를 바라며 하나님께 간구한다고 말합니다. 이는 그리스도를 믿고 따르고 전하는 자신의 삶에 조금도 후회가 없기 때문에 가능한 말입니다. 주님께 매인 삶이 가장 행복한 삶입니다.

■ 복음을 위한 결박 (26:30~32)
하나님의 생각은 사람의 생각과 다릅니다. 바울을 심문한 아그립바왕과 베스도 총독은 그가 죄가 없다고 판단하고, 그가 가이사에게 상소한 것 때문에 로마로 송환되는 것을 안타깝게 생각합니다. 그러나 하나님의 계획은 바울이 로마에서도 복음을 증언하는 것이었습니디(23:11). 바울 역시 이러한 하나님의 뜻을 일았기에 자신이 로마 시민임을 앞세워 가이사에게 상소했던 것입니다(25:11). 그를 심문한 사람들의 판단처럼 바울은 사형이나 결박을 당할 만한 범죄 행위가 없었지만, 결박당해야만 하는 이유가 있었습니다. 바로 하나님의 뜻과 사명을 이루기 위해서입니다.

“Speaking Freely”

■ [사도행전(Acts) 26:24-32]
24 At this point Festus interrupted Paul’s defense. “You are out of your mind, Paul!” he shouted. “Your great learning is driving you insane.” 25 “I am not insane, most excellent Festus,” Paul replied. “What I am saying is true and reasonable. 26 The king is familiar with these things, and I can speak freely to him. I am convinced that none of this has escaped his notice, because it was not done in a corner. 27 King Agrippa, do you believe the prophets? I know you do.” 28 Then Agrippa said to Paul, “Do you think that in such a short time you can persuade me to be a Christian?” 29 Paul replied, “Short time or long—I pray to God that not only you but all who are listening to me today may become what I am, except for these chains.” 30 The king rose, and with him the governor and Bernice and those sitting with them. 31 After they left the room, they began saying to one another, “This man is not doing anything that deserves death or imprisonment.” 32 Agrippa said to Festus, “This man could have been set free if he had not appealed to Caesar.”

■ Passion for Christ (26:24-29)
Even though Festus thinks his prisoner is going insane, Paul insists that his words are true, and he shares freely in front of Agrippa, knowing that the king is a pious Jew and familiar with Old Testament Scripture. Agrippa questions Paul's boldness in thinking that he can convert the ruler of the region with one short conversation. However, Paul responds that the length of time does not matter. He wants not only Agrippa but also all of the high-ranking offcials there to become as passionate about the Gospel as he is. Paul is eager to see them encounter Christ. May we be as passionate for Christ as Paul is, and inspire such passion in those around us.

■ Seeming Setback (26:30-32)
The officials leave the room to discuss Paul's fate, and they agree that he has done nothing worthy of death or imprisonment. They are obligated to send him to Rome, however, because he has appealed to Caesar. Though at first glance it may seem regretful that Paul is unable to be set free, God is sovereignly at work in Paul's life. Paul will be granted the opportunity to preach to the highest offcials in the Roman Empire and many others in the grand city of Rome. Sometimes it may seem as though we have made mistakes that have caused setbacks in our lives. But God can turn everything around and change those setbacks into opportunities to bring more people into His kingdom and glorify Him.

■ Prayer
Father, thank you for loving us so much that You sent Your Son to die for us. Grant me the grace to grow in my love and passion for You so that I may tell everyone about what Jesus did on the cross. In His name I pray. Amen.
