하나님의 임재연습(The Practice of the Presence of God)-묵상(3) 12/05/2018(수.Wed.)

(요한1서. 1 John 2:15-17)
"이 세상이나 세상에 있는 것들을 사랑하지 말라 누구든지 세상을 사랑하면 아버지의 사랑이 그 안에 있지 아니하니 이는 세상에 있는 모든 것이 육신의 정욕과 안목의 정욕과 이생의 자랑이니 다 아버지께로부터 온 것이 아니요 세상으로부터 온 것이라 이 세상도, 그 정욕도 지나가되 오직 하나님의 뜻을 행하는 자는 영원히 거하느니라.
Do not love the world or anything in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him. For everything in the world -- the cravings of sinful man, the lust of his eyes and the boasting of what he has and does -- comes not from the Father but from the world. The world and its desires pass away, but the man who does the will of God lives forever.“

로렌스 형제는 세상이 죄와 불행으로 가득 차 있다는 사실에 대하여 그다지 놀라지 않았다. 오히려 세상이 왜 그 이상 더 얼룩지지 않는가에 대해 의아해했을 뿐이다. 즉 그는 우리의 원수가 치달을 수 있는 훨씬 더한 극단의 모습들을 상상했던 것이다.

그는 말하기를 자기는 이 문제를 놓고 기도는 하지만, 하나님이 마음만 먹는다면 한순간에라도 이런 상황들을 고쳐 놓으실 수 있다는 것을 잘 알기 때문에 그런 문제에 너무 지나치게 마음쓰지는 않는다고 했다. 하나님이 바라시는 만큼까지 우리 자신을 그분께 내어 드릴 수 있으려면 끊임없이 자신의 영혼을 지키는 작업이 필요하다. 우리의 영혼은 영적인 일에만 관여할 수는 없으며 어쩔 수 없이 바깥 세상의 일들에도 관여해야 한다. 그러나 자칫 잘못하여 세상에 영혼의 속을 다 내비치고 하나님께는 등을 돌려 대게 된다면, 그분은 우리의 부르짖음에 그다지 쉽사리 대답하지 않으실 것이다.

하나님의 도우심을 받아들이고 그분의 뜻하심에 따라 자신의 영혼을 지키고자 할 때, 그때 비로소 우리는 원할 때마다 자유롭게 그분과 사귐을 가질 수 있을 것이다.

Brother Lawrence wasn't surprised by the amount of sin and unhappiness in the world. Rather, he wondered why there wasn't more, considering the extremes to which the enemy is capable of going. He said he prayed about it, but because he knew God could rectify the situation in a moment if He willed it, he didn't allow himself to become greatly concerned.

To succeed in giving ourselves to God as much as He desires, we must constantly guard our souls. In addition to being involved in spiritual matters, the soul is involved in the things of this world. However, when we turn our backs on Him, exposing our souls to the world, He will not so easily answer our call. When we are willing to accept God's help and guard our souls according to His desires, we may commune with Him whenever we like.
