“영혼구원의 길은 주께서 돌보십니다”

■ [사도행전(Acts) 23:23-35]
(행 23:23) 백부장 둘을 불러 이르되 밤 제 삼 시에 가이사랴까지 갈 보병 이백 명과 기병 칠십 명과 창병 이백 명을 준비하라 하고
(행 23:24) 또 바울을 태워 총독 벨릭스에게로 무사히 보내기 위하여 짐승을 준비하라 명하며
(행 23:25) 또 이 아래와 같이 편지하니 일렀으되
(행 23:26) 글라우디오 루시아는 총독 벨릭스 각하께 문안하나이다
(행 23:27) 이 사람이 유대인들에게 잡혀 죽게 된 것을 내가 로마 사람인 줄 들어 알고 군대를 거느리고 가서 구원하여다가
(행 23:28) 유대인들이 무슨 일로 그를 고발하는지 알고자 하여 그들의 공회로 데리고 내려갔더니
(행 23:29) 고발하는 것이 그들의 율법 문제에 관한 것뿐이요 한 가지도 죽이거나 결박할 사유가 없음을 발견하였나이다
(행 23:30) 그러나 이 사람을 해하려는 간계가 있다고 누가 내게 알려 주기로 곧 당신께로 보내며 또 고발하는 사람들도 당신 앞에서 그에 대하여 말하라 하였나이다 하였더라
(행 23:31) ○보병이 명을 받은 대로 밤에 바울을 데리고 안디바드리에 이르러
(행 23:32) 이튿날 기병으로 바울을 호송하게 하고 영내로 돌아가니라
(행 23:33) 그들이 가이사랴에 들어가서 편지를 총독에게 드리고 바울을 그 앞에 세우니
(행 23:34) 총독이 읽고 바울더러 어느 영지 사람이냐 물어 길리기아 사람인 줄 알고
(행 23:35) 이르되 너를 고발하는 사람들이 오거든 네 말을 들으리라 하고 헤롯 궁에 그를 지키라 명하니라

■ 바울을 총독에게 호송할 준비 (23:23~24)
하나님 백성은 하나님이 책임지고 지키십니다. 천부장은 로마 시민인 바울을 유대인들의 위협으로부터 보호하고자 가이사라에 보내기로 합니다. 로마 시민에 대한 재판권을 가진 로마 총독 벨릭스가 그곳에 있기 때문입니다. 바울을 안전히 호송하기 위해 동원된 병사가 무려 470명입니다. 천부장의 거느리는 병력을 절반 가까이 투입한 것입니다. 사실 로마 입장에서 바울은 그리 중요한 사람이 아닙니다. 그러나 하나님께는 천하보다 귀한 한 사람입니다. 하나님은 모든 것을 동원해 그분의 자녀를 보호하시며, 땅끝까지 복음전하는 사명을 온전히 감당하도록 도우십니다.

■ 가이사랴에 도착한 편지와 바울 (23:25~35)
어떤 관점으로 보느냐에 따라 사람을 달리 대하게 됩니다. 유대인의 시각으로 보면, 복음을 전하는 바울은 없애 버려야 할 존재입니다. 하지만 로마 장교인 천부장의 시각으로 보면 바울은 죽이거나 결박할 죄가 없는 로마 시민으로, 보호해야 할 대상입니다. 그렇기에 천부장은 바울을 총독에게 보내며, 그를 옹호하는 내용의 편지를 전합니다. 성도는 인간적이고 이기적인 생각을 내려놓고, 하나님의 시각으로 상대를 볼 수 있어야 합니다. 한편 바울은 밤에 보병과 기병을 비롯한 로마군의 철통같은 호위를 받으며, 암살자들의 위협이 있는 예루살렘을 떠나 무사히 가이사라에 도착합니다. 총독은 바울이 자신의 관할 구역인 길리기아 출신임을 확인하고, 그를 고발한 사람들이 올 때까지 정식 재판을 미룹니다. 하나님은 사명의 길을 안전하게 지켜 주시는 분입니다.

■ 오늘의 기도
주님, 세상이 믿는 그리스도인들을 미워하고 대적하는 상황에서 여러모양의 위험이 도사리고 있고 불이익들이 있을지라도 주님의 자녀된 저희를 지키시고 인도하고 계심을 알게하시니 감사합니다. 천국을 소유한 제가 먼저 믿은 그리스도인으로서 복음을 전하기 위해 믿지않는 한 영혼을 품을 수 있기를 원합니다. 저를 영혼구원을 위한 삶으로 인도하시려고 많은 사람과 상황을 움직이실 하나님의 역사를 믿음으로 바라보며 기도하게하소서. 아멘.

“Providential Protection”

■ [사도행전(Acts) 23:23-35]
23 Then he called two of his centurions and ordered them, “Get ready a detachment of two hundred soldiers, seventy horsemen and two hundred spearmen to go to Caesarea at nine tonight. 24 Provide horses for Paul so that he may be taken safely to Governor Felix.” 25 He wrote a letter as follows: 26 Claudius Lysias, To His Excellency, Governor Felix: Greetings. 27 This man was seized by the Jews and they were about to kill him, but I came with my troops and rescued him, for I had learned that he is a Roman citizen. 28 I wanted to know why they were accusing him, so I brought him to their Sanhedrin. 29 I found that the accusation had to do with questions about their law, but there was no charge against him that deserved death or imprisonment. 30 When I was informed of a plot to be carried out against the man, I sent him to you at once. I also ordered his accusers to present to you their case against him. 31 So the soldiers, carrying out their orders, took Paul with them during the night and brought him as far as Antipatris. 32 The next day they let the cavalry go on with him, while they returned to the barracks. 33 When the cavalry arrived in Caesarea, they delivered the letter to the governor and handed Paul over to him. 34 The governor read the letter and asked what province he was from. Learning that he was from Cilicia, 35 he said, “I will hear your case when your accusers get here.” Then he ordered that Paul be kept under guard in Herod’s palace.

■ He Will Make a way (23:23-30)
Upon hearing about the plot to kill Paul, the commander, Claudius Lysias, orders a detachment of 470 armed guards to escort Paul safely to Caesarea, where he is to stand trial before Felix, the governor of Judea. In a letter to Felix, Lysias states that Paul seems to have done nothing to warrant death or imprisonment. He is therefore sending Paul to the governor so that the accusers can present their case, and the governor can decide what to do. Paul is unjustly imprisoned, but God uses a commander and armed guards to protect him. God can make a way for His people even in life-threatening times, and He will continue to work for the good of those who love Him.

■ God Will Prevail (23:31-35)
Governor Felix agrees to hear Paul's case and orders that he be kept under guard in Herod's palace, Paul will not only have to defend himself against his accusers, but he will also have to convince Felix of his innocence. There may be times when we have to face the laws and legal systems of our region, and we may even be falsely accused. As we trust in the justice of God, however, we can be assured that even in an unjust situation, ultimately, all authorities and powers are under the will of our sovereign God, and He will prevail.

■ Prayer
Father, although I do not understand the reasons for many things happening in my life, I still choose to trust and obey You. Help me to move beyond my own understanding and realize that Your hand is in every moment of every situation. In Jesus' name. Amen.
